Wandering bus and wildlife protection in Central Africa

The Wandering Bus is one of Prague Zoo’s key in situ projects. As part of this initiative, we focus primarily on the conservation of gorillas and other endangered species in Central Africa through the education of the younger generation. Since 2013, we have been introducing children in Cameroon to the concept of sustainable rainforest use and offering them the opportunity to see gorillas as fascinating living creatures, rather than merely meat on a plate. In addition, we support various organisations working to protect gorillas and the natural environment in the areas where they live.
| Focal species: western lowland gorilla (Gorilla gorilla gorilla), eastern lowland gorilla (Gorilla beringei graueri), pangolins (Manidae) Where we help: Cameroon (mainly Dja Biosphere Reserve), Democratic Republic of the Congo (Kahuzi Biega) Habitat: tropical rainforest of Central Africa Project active since: 2013 |

Other activities of Prague Zoo in Central Africa
Our other activities in Central Africa include, in particular, providing material support to forest rangers, supporting education and awareness through our own printed materials, and assisting regional organisations focused on primate conservation or sustainable development.
Other species that we help protect in Central Africa
Through education and raising awareness among local communities, as well as providing material support to forest rangers, we contribute not only to the protection of gorillas but also to the conservation of other endangered animal species that inhabit the African rainforest.
